Description

Mirror Leech

"The Mirror Leech feeds upon distorted reflection."

Among the most insidious members of the Shame Family, the Mirror Leech attaches itself to a traveler's self-image.

Unlike the Hollow Judge, which fears the opinions of others, the Mirror Leech turns the traveler against themselves.

It clings to flaws. Magnifies mistakes. Minimizes strengths. Dismisses growth.

Over time, the traveler begins seeing themselves through the Leech's distortion rather than through truth.

Many travelers report that the Mirror Leech is most difficult to recognize because its voice often sounds like their own.

Research Notes

Rowan's Research Notes

"The Mirror Leech appears strangely threatened by self-compassion. Travelers often assume kindness toward themselves will create complacency. My observations suggest the opposite. Self-compassion seems to weaken the Leech's grip while increasing a traveler's willingness to grow."

— Rowan

 Ember's Observation

"I've noticed the Mirror Leech loves bad lighting. The clearer the reflection becomes, the harder it is for the creature to hide."

— Ember

Campfire Notes

Travelers report:

"I accomplished something meaningful and immediately explained why it didn't count."

"The Leech always seemed to move the goalposts."

"I realized I was speaking to myself more harshly than anyone else ever had."

"The distortion lost power once I started collecting evidence."

Questions for Further Study

  • Why do accomplishments often attract the Mirror Leech?

  • Does comparison create distortion, or merely reveal it?

  • Can a traveler ever see themselves completely clearly?

  • The Caravan remains divided on this question.
