The Shadow of Talking About the Quest
A curious thought visited me today.
Over the last several days, many of my conversations have revolved around Narrative Realmwalkers.
The website.
The videos.
The blog.
The guides.
The fears.
The hopes.
The shadows.
At first, this seemed completely reasonable. After all, I’ve been building something that matters deeply to me.
Yet a small question appeared around the edge of the campfire.
What if I’m spending too much time talking about the journey instead of walking it?
The thought lingered.
Not as an accusation.
More as a curiosity.
I suspect many travelers encounter this shadow eventually.
We begin planning.
Then refining.
Then discussing.
Then analyzing.
Then seeking reassurance.
Eventually a strange thing can happen.
The conversation about the quest begins to replace the quest itself.
The map becomes more familiar than the road.
The possibility becomes more comfortable than participation.
I’ve noticed this shadow wears many disguises.
Research.
Preparation.
Optimization.
Strategy.
Sometimes even reflection.
All useful things.
Until they quietly become substitutes for action.
The interesting part is that I don’t believe this is where I currently stand.
Not because I am immune to the shadow.
But because something important changed this week.
The website is live.
The guides exist.
The videos exist.
The blog exists.
The email exists.
The campfire exists.
At some point, talking stopped being the only thing happening.
The road appeared beneath my feet.
Perhaps the real question is not:
“Am I talking too much about the quest?”
Perhaps the better question is:
“Am I still walking?”
As long as the answer remains yes, the conversation may simply be part of the journey.
Still, it feels like a useful shadow to watch.
Because every traveler eventually discovers that describing a road and walking a road are not the same thing.
The road only changes us when we travel it.
