Description

"The Collector of Someday rarely destroys dreams. It simply stores them."

Among the most deceptive of all Shadows, the Collector of Someday convinces travelers that their ideas, adventures, talents, and aspirations are too valuable to risk.

Rather than pursuing them, the traveler is encouraged to preserve them for a future day when conditions are perfect.

The Collector hoards:

  • Books waiting to be written

  • Skills waiting to be learned

  • Journeys waiting to begin

  • Conversations waiting to happen

  • Lives waiting to be lived

Its treasure chambers are filled with abandoned possibilities.

Many travelers do not realize they have encountered the Collector until they stumble upon a dream they have been saving for years.

Then do that version today.

Today, Not Someday

Not when planned."

Research Notes

Rowan's Research Notes

"Many travelers assume the Collector feeds on laziness. I have found little evidence for this. Most victims of the Collector care deeply about their dreams. The tragedy is not that they lack desire. It is that they have become convinced there will always be more time."

— Rowan

 Ember's Observation

"I've noticed the Collector hates tiny victories. You don't have to slay a dragon all at once. Sometimes stealing back a single coin is enough to make it nervous."

— Ember

Campfire Notes

Travelers report:

"Mine collected a novel for fifteen years."

"I kept waiting until I felt ready."

"The Collector convinced me preparation was progress."

"I realized someday had quietly become never."

Questions for Further Study

  • Does the Collector become stronger as travelers age?

  • Why does preparation so often become one of its disguises?

  • Are abandoned dreams permanently lost, or merely buried beneath the hoard?

  • The Caravan remains divided on this question.
